  • Perth Station is located in the Perth CBD and is the largest station on the Transperth network. It serves as an interchange between the Armadale, Fremantle, Joondalup, Mandurah and Midland lines as well as Transwa’s Australind service.
  • Perth Underground was opened in 2007 and is a short distance from Perth Station. The underground platforms, numbered 1 and 2, are known as Perth Underground, but are considered part of the overall Perth station.
  • East Perth Station is on the Midland line. It is adjacent to the East Perth Terminal and Public Transport Centre and serves the Suburb of East Perth.
  • Some other major stations include:

    • Elizabeth Quay

    • Leederville
    • City West

Perth has two public airports, that being Perth Airport and Jandakot Airport . When you arrive at Perth via plane, it wold most likely be at Perth Airport.

  • Perth Airport has public transport to and from the CBD. The 380 bus at Elizabeth Quay station downtown will take you to and from the airport’s Terminal 1 and 2. If you’re heading to or from Terminal 3 and 4, then use the 40 bus. The bus services run every 30 minutes approximately, and you can use the SmartRider card to pay. The price isn’t different from the regular bus fare charged.
  • Jandakot Airport is mostly used by the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS), Department of Environment and Conservation Forest and Bushfire Patrol, Fire and Emergency Services Authority of Western Australia (FESA) (now known as DFES) emergency helicopter and the WA Police Air Support.

How to get around Perth

You can easily get around Perth using public transport. If you love walking and biking, then you can do this all year long in Perth due to the fantastic weather. The following are some of the ways to get around Perth:

  • Buses:  You get access to free bus services in Perth, in Fremantle, and the city center. Between 6 am and 7 pm mostly, every 5-15 minutes, different bus loops depart. These buses are a suitable mode of public transportation to get you to various hotels and attractions around Perth and Fremantle’s downtown. You’ll need a SmartRider card that costs $7 ($10 AUD) then recharge it with a minimum of the same amount to use the public bus system managed by Transperth. The bus fares are not so expensive and cost a maximum of $3.35 ($4.70 AUD).
  • Trains:  For the trains that travel between Claisebrook stations, City West, and Elizabeth Quay, there is a free transit zone. You need to use the SmartRider card as well with the trains too to get free rides. Attractions you can get to within the free transit zones include Western Australian Museum, Art Gallery of Western Australia, and Northbridge, among others.
  • Ferries:  From Elizabeth Quay, you can use your SmartRider card to use the public ferry across the Swan River to get to Mends Street Jetty. Using a ferry is the easiest way to go to Rottnest Island. You can access multiple trips daily, although it depends on the time of year you’re there.
  • Bicycle:  If you need personal space and flexibility while exploring Perth, you can rent a bike for $18 ($25 AUD) for a full day. You can also rent a car.
  • Taxis:  The cheapest option if you want to use a cab instead of other public transport, then your best choice is UberX.

What to do in Perth

There are a lot of fun things to do in Perth. These are some of the best things to indulge in:

  • Visit Fremantle. The streets full of heritage in Fremantle offer serene vibes that you can afford to miss. Get a taste of great food and handmade goods at The Old Synagogue, the markets, Cappuccino Strip, among others.
  • Enjoy the beach at Cottesloe. You’ll get to see a lot of iconic beaches here and get to soak in the sun. There are great restaurants too.
  • Take a ferry to Rottnest Island. You’ll get a lot of time to unwind and relax here while enjoying scenic views. You can snorkel and even see wildlife.
