Once leaving Brisbane, you will travel through or near a variety of small towns that make up the region, including Caloundra, Bribie Island, Maroochydore, Coolum, Noosa, Mooloolabah, and more. • Brisbane Airport – The closest airport to the Sunshine Coast is Brisbane Airport, which receives flights from all over Australia. The airport has over 760 weekly flights and flies to 50 domestic destinations. You can fly into one of the country’s major international hubs before getting a domestic connection to Brisbane.
• Train – Once you arrive in Brisbane, there is still the matter of reaching the Sunshine Coast, which is 100 kilometres away. The simplest way to cover the distance is by train. An electric train service runs between the capital and the Sunshine Coast. It takes 90 minutes to travel from Brisbane’s Central Station to Nambour, the main station on the Sunshine Coast.

• Summer occurs from December to February and temperatures can get hot with an average maximum of 28° C. January and February tend to be the rainiest times of the year.
• Autumn temperatures are just a few degrees cooler on average as the season lasts from March until May.
• You won’t experience cold weather, sleet and snow during winter on the Sunshine Coast. Temperatures rarely dip near freezing and range between 7°C and 22°C. Ocean temperatures remain comfortable at 19°C in winter.
• Spring hits in September and temperatures begin warming back up quickly. The season experiences an average of 13°C to 25°C.

Fun Fact

Although the region is now famously known as the Sunshine Coast, that wasn’t its original name. The area was once called Near North Coast. In 1966, after eight long years of petitions and pleading with the powers that be, the region’s name was officially changed to the Sunshine Coast and it has been attracting tourists ever since.
