Marble House has a Chinese Tea House and a gold-leaf-covered salon. Rough Point is less spectacular and easier to live in than Doris Duke’s other homes, though it’s still huge. Bellevue Avenue and the Cliff Walk offer great views of these homes.

The House of the Seven Gables

The House of the Seven Gables is a beautiful log building that was first built in the mid-1600s. John Turner, a trader on the seas, built the family home that Captain Samuel Ingersoll bought in 1782.

Susanna, who was Nathaniel Hawthorne’s cousin, got the estate from Ingersoll because he had died. This huge log cabin was used to film The House of Seven Gables. The home is now used for classes and other events thanks to efforts to keep it in good shape. The venue can also be used for events like weddings and business meetings.
